Hip hop is great music for trains. I’m unsure as to why this is. I’d hesitantly posit that it had something to do with the fundamental differences in their nature. Hip hop is abrupt. Disjointed. This is inherent to the medium. Trains are not. They are all about open spaces, smoothness and a horizon. This is arguably the worst comparison in the history of the world but I was thinking about it tonight as the rice paddies slipped past the window and felt I needed to put something down. I’ve had better nights. I’ve had better train rides. But MF Doom is a constant. He smooths over the cracks.
